Dynamic Content Plugin Released for Adobe Illustrator

The new plugin lets users edit and maintain text externally to Illustrator.
The concept of dynamic publishing is far from new but it seems to be rapidly picking up steam in the enterprise publishing sector. Earlier this month Quark released its Dynamic Publishing Solution, as an end to end approach to facilitate publishing in which layout and content are kept as autonomous as possible.
EskoArtwork plays to the same customer, since the firm is positioned as a supplier and integrator of solutions for packaging, commercial printing and professional publishing. The new Dynamic Content plugin has been developed specifically for use as part of a packaging design workflow.

The concept is simple enough: a text link is created in an Illustrator document directly to an XML file, which is typically authored by the client or "brand owner." Such text can't be accidentally changed within Illustrator, freeing the designer from the responsibility of introducing errors. In addition, external changes can be counted to be accurately reflected within the document, as well as for updated text to be available for other usages. In addition, multiple text sources can be linked to a single design, a feature typically used for multi-language designs. Designers can also collect static text from legacy designs and bring them into a dynamically-managed content workflow, and can build dynamic templates for products within the same brand umbrella.

Dynamic Content for Mac and Windows Adobe Illustrator CS2 and CS3 can be purchased on the EskoArtwork site for $1,513. A trial version is also available for download.
