The Server version of this platform for media management and delivery has been enhanced, notably with the addition of a MediaRich processing engine.
Portfolio is designed to help marketing and creative workgroups efficiently view, organize, route, archive and distribute creative assets. The idea is to manage a brand's creative assets across internal and external teams, partners and vendors, thereby eliminating the traditionally time-consuming and error-prone process of finding and tracking digital content. Portfolio is available in a range of versions, from single user up to high-end enterprise solutions, in both desktop and Web-based iterations.
Portfolio Server 9 includes a new Adobe FLEX web client, which delivers a dashboard for creative workflows and can be used in conjunction with an optional new NetPublish component to publish assets to the web. Also new is Portfolio's Java-based server architecture; scalable MediaRich media processing engine for extensive file format support and fast media delivery; web-based server administration for remote management of server and users; industry-standard Adobe XMP Toolkit integration for read/write metadata exchange across applications; and integration with Adobe creative applications via drag and drop functionality through Portfolio Express palette.

Portfolio Server 9 for Mac and Windows can be purchased for $6,050, plus $315 per client (desktop or web client), on the Extensis site. Trial versions are available for download.

DAZ 3D Updates DAZ Studio and Provides Prosumer Version

DAZ 3D has provided a new free version of its 3D art and animation package, DAZ Studio 3, and also introduced a professional-quality toolset, DAZ Studio 3 Advanced, geared to 3D animators, designers and illustrators.
DAZ 3D provides a library of characters and accessories, as well as developing a range of applications that support its content, including DAZ Studio, a free 3D digital art creation tool, Mimic, a lip-synching application, Carrara, an all-in-one 3D solution, and Bryce, a complete 3D environment and animation package. Having a good understanding of the market, DAZ knows that making the jump to 3D can be a challenging one for 2D artists, and so makes available its DAZ Studio as a stepping stone to the 3D world. The free download consists of a 3D figure posing and animation tool that comes with a selection of scenes and props, including the versatile Victoria figure.
DAZ Studio 3 offers improved OpenGL preview display with new camera and light pointer tools, depth of field and support for version 8.5 of Pixar's RenderMan-compliant 3Delight render engine. This tool is designed to allow users to create unique digital art and animation using their choice of virtual people, animals, props, vehicles, accessories and environments. Users can simply select their subject and/or setting, arrange accessories, set up lighting and immediately begin to create 3D artwork.

The Advanced version adds a set of professional-level tools, including advanced render effects and shaders, COLLADA import/export, animation keyframe editing, figure mixing and support for 64-bit systems. With these tools, extended export capabilities and greater compatibility with Carrara, 3D enthusiasts are said to be able to more easily transition into serious 3D artists.

Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II Photo Printer Review

The Canon Pro 9500 Mark II is a serious printer, in every sense of the word. The pigment inks it uses produce very deep blacks and could manage a greater range of colors than most. But it's also a seriously expensive printer, at $849, and most photographers will be happy with a cheaper printer that produces decent prints (such as the Canon Pro 9000 Mark II or the Epson R1900). As such, it will only appeal to serious photographers who want top quality prints and don't mind paying extra for it.
